India Adams

India Adams describes herself as a ‘fluid creative moving through a multitude of practices, on the likes of intaglio print, photography, drawing, writing’. She is driven to ensure that a new practice be the next chapter, resulting in an exciting evolution of materials, techniques and styles

I first met India whilst we attended an art foundation course at Camberwell. Our specialism was ‘Photography and Time Based Media’. I remember always being impressed by the way India traversed the specialism and its parameters. She didn’t let herself get confined to the potential limitations of studying such a course. I recall her experiments into printmaking across various mediums from film to ink. It was refreshing to be present with an artist working across mediums whilst retaining a style and intention

Drawing on her catalogue of reference points and logged ideas is key; ‘the figure collides with my curation around working with archive photos, and the developing of characters that comes with a justifiable knowledge of a history around the photos’. We were privileged enough to be able to present four of India’s current works at our music, art and fashion night on the 23rd of November at the Avalon Café. A mixture of styles, mediums and scales, the selected works gave us a direct insight into her current processes

Now at the beginning of her BA course at City and Guilds, I’m sure we’ll keep exchanging ideas and notes, and I look forward to keep witnessing her progression into a fine young artist
