Leftover(s)

Are you too, finding yourself ‘always getting fucked up coz there’s nothing to do?’. Well, you can find some refuge and solace in the sounds of Leftover(s)

At our last Far From at The George Tavern, Leftover(s) brought us a plethora of tunes, from tales of a deranged goose that escaped its farmers, to piano ballads about foot jobs, and just about everything in between

Kicking off the night, it was a performance like no other; a performance that left half of the crowd in a state of shock and fear of the bedraggled foursome, whilst the rest of us sat back and let the chaos take a hold

The show was a spectacle to experience. The set of outsider-sounding music was filled with both humour and horror. The songs were even accompanied by a fifth member of the band crocheting throughout the whole set; an addition we did not know we needed, but one that enriched the whole Leftover(s) experience. At one point, Margo, in all her dumpster-dived flamboyance, asked the audience to take a seat for their tune ‘Choke or Cheer’. A key aspect of the Leftover(s) show was its spontaneity. For example, during the breaks between each song and tune ups, the band would break out into a jam. The bass player ‘Mimi the Goose’ started skatting an excerpt of the book ‘On Connection’ by Kae Tempest over an instrumental freak out. This openness with the audience was clear throughout the show, and made seeing Leftover(s) feel like a special, intimate event

I think it’s clear that there is one real Leftover(s) anthem that will stick with us for the longest; ‘Grippy Sock Foot Job’. The ballad sees a change in the line up of the band with the drummer taking a turn onThe George’s in house up-right piano. Accompanied by the rest of the band, whilst Margo adopts a new sound on the guitar. Using her Whammy pedal to create an organ sound, the guitar licks transports you to the scenes of a freaky fun fair. The track recounts a story of when Margo was feeling down one day, her friend offered her a foot job, conducted with the addition of grippy socks. I think its fair to say that we were all left a little curious to the medical benefits of a grippy sock foot job…

The Leftover(s) sound is hard to pin down, and just when you think you’ve cracked it, it shape shifts into a form you’ve yet to encounter. A hectic combination of indie rock, with traces of punk, glam and almost theatrical music

Seeing Leftover(s) changed the perspective of what a live performance could, or should be entirely. Now, don’t waste any more time, book yourself some tickets and go get your Leftover(s)!

Yours truly,

Far From
